1. When did you join CrossFit BC?
I first joined in September, 2008 but then stopped after a year and a half when I started playing rugby. I tried to start again in Victoria when I was going to Uvic but couldn’t find a gym as friendly as CrossFit BC! I started again in September 2015 when I moved back to Vancouver.

2. Why did you choose CrossFit?
Originally, Sophie, who I went to high school with, told me about it and it sounded like it was something I would enjoy. Now I feel like I chose it because it’s a lifestyle that I want to keep living

3. What changes in your health, physique and overall performance have you seen since starting CrossFit?
I find that I actually enjoy waking up at 6 am to go hang out with my 7 am crew (such a shocker since I am NOT a morning person). I have more energy and my endurance is a lot better! The biggest change I have seen in myself is my boost in confidence, being around people that are supportive and share the same interests as mine has made me mentally fit and healthy. My attitude has totally changed towards exercising and has made me a more positive person.

4. What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting CrossFit?
Don’t take it too seriously. I find that sometimes I am super competitive with myself and get annoyed when I can’t lift the weight I want to, or get some of the exercises down, but I know that with practice I will get better. It can be intimidating to start a new fitness routine, but luckily CrossFit is a very encouraging community.

5. What is your favourite CrossFit exercise?
Handstand pushups! My favourite tech is back or front squats.

6. What is your favourite activity outside of CrossFit?
Hiking! I love doing the Chief in Squamish and excited for the weather to get better so I can explore other hiking trails in BC!

7. What is your proudest accomplishment at CrossFit?
Getting my first rope climb! Seriously never thought I would ever get it.
8. Have you made any changes to your diet?
With the holidays I think I have actually gone downhill….but I did start IIFYM back in October and I find that flexible dieting has really helped keep me on track.

9. Is there something that people would be surprised to know about you?
My dream job is to be a police officer! Couldn’t see myself doing anything else.

10. What/who inspires you the most?
Sophie Straith.
