1. When did you join CrossFit BC?
I joined around May of 2013, so it’s been about 2.5 years.

2. Why did you choose CrossFit?
I was originally drawn to the combination of Olympic lifting, bodyweight exercises, and cardio – all thrown together in a high intensity workout. The continual focus on technique and form are also a major draw – it’s kind of like a continuing education. I stayed, of course, because the coaching staff is amazing, and the environment is friendly and supportive.

3. What changes in your health, physique and overall performance have you seen since starting CrossFit?
I definitely feel healthier and stronger!

4. What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting CrossFit?
Push yourself, but pace yourself. Small improvements can really add up over time.

5. What is your favourite CrossFit exercise?
That’s a tough call! Handstand push-ups, rope climbs, or overhead squats are all fun.

6. What is your favourite activity outside of CrossFit?
Eating, reading, hiking, & traveling!

7. What is your proudest accomplishment at CrossFit?
It’s always a good feeling when you can accomplish more reps or more weight than before. Double unders (ugh) and bar muscle ups have eluded me, but I feel like they’re right around the corner. Hopefully I can add those to the list soon!

8. Have you made any changes to your diet?
Other than eating more, my diet hasn’t really changed. I eat a lot of vegetarian meals during the week, but I crave a good burger every now and then. I appreciate good food, and fortunately, Vancouver’s a great food city. Of course, food is also one of my favorite aspects of travel.

9. Is there something that people would be surprised to know about you?
Some people know I’m originally from Texas. Most don’t know that I was a musician when I was younger and once opened for Willie Nelson.

10. What/who inspires you the most?
Hmmm, this could go in a few directions – so I’ll keep it related to Crossfit. I’m amazed that no matter your age or gender, people are kicking arse at all levels. I’m constantly inspired and humbled by old timers and new-comers, women and men alike. And did I mention that we have some incredible women athletes?! I really appreciate the balanced workout environment that we have – I’ve never experienced anything like this at a gym.
