1. When did you join CrossFit BC?
November 2012

2. Why did you choose CrossFit?
My friend and neighbour Ricki (Bubbles) mentioned she had been going to classes, I had never heard of it so I decided to give it a try…. I was instantly hooked. I clearly remember going home after the first class thinking two things; 1- I probably wouldn’t be able to walk the next day and 2- I think I found my niche. Needless to say I was right about both! Crossfit translates naturally to my lifestyle; you put in the work and reap the rewards. Every time I step into the box I leave the days stresses or worries behind, I focus on the WOD- get the work done (as fast as you can J) then enjoy the sense of accomplishment. One of the greatest feelings is finding out what you are capable of doing, there are soo many things I would have never thought I would be able to perform.

3. What changes in your health, physique and overall performance have you seen since starting CrossFit?
I thought I was in relatively good shape prior to starting Crossfit, however, my body has morphed into something I don’t think I could have achieved in a Globo gym left to my own devices. Aside from having good cardio from long distance running, I have found that my stamina and endurance has greatly improved. And more importantly my strength, and who knew I had traps!! LOL….

4. What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting CrossFit?
It does seem a bit intimidating at first but it is definitely worth trying. If you want a great, challenging work out and like to do so in a group setting this could be for you. The coaches are fantastic and are there to help you and work within your comfort level and ability. The community at CFBC is fantastic; you will meet like-minded, supportive individuals who become friends outside of the box.

5. What is your favourite CrossFit exercise?
If I had to pick one favourite exercise, I suppose….Pistols!! I also enjoy Olympic lifting, there is so much technique involved in each lift but when a PR happens…that is always great feeling.

6. What is your favourite activity outside of CrossFit?
Hmm…activities outside of Crossfit are nonexistent these days until I finish my Masters this summer. I do enjoy practicing yoga or running on the seawall.

7. What is your proudest accomplishment at CrossFit?
Stepping out of my comfort zone and competing in the Summer Challenge was absolutely a great accomplishment. Also, currently participating in the Canadian Affiliate League with the Beards and Babes!

8. Have you made any changes to your diet?
I have always been conscious of the selection of foods I consume; I haven’t made any major changes except being more aware and making sure I eat to sustain the demands of training.

9. Is there something that people would be surprised to know about you?
I love roller coasters (the big ones that almost give you whiplash), horror movies (mostly the ones from the 80s) and cooking (when I have the time).

10. What/who inspires you the most?
Witnessing the progression of new athletes, the perseverance and work ethic of athletes and the camaraderie and encouragement that everyone brings to the Box, it’s infectious.
