20130708-164523.jpg1) When did you join CrossFit BC?
I joined CFBC back in the early days, 2008 I think? Yikes that’s a lot of pull-ups ago!

2) Why did you choose CrossFit?
I started CF when it was still grass roots, at least in Vancouver. I heard about this crazy place where people did random workouts (WODS) that made them want to die. There was nothing else like it and I was intrigued. Needless to say I was immediately hooked.

3) What changes in your health, physique and overall performance have you seen since starting CrossFit?
I was a soloist with the National Ballet of Canada for many years. I went to boarding school, the National Ballet School, when I was 8 years old and danced 5 hours a day. I am used to hard work. I am also used to being pushed to the limit on a daily basis. I was physically fit as a dancer and worked my ass off (literally!!!!), but it was to appease an artistic ideal which didn’t necessarily represent true fitness and health. CrossFit pushes me in a way that nothing else has done since. I feel stronger now than I ever have and embrace the new muscles that I never thought I would own.

4) What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting CrossFit?
I would encourage everyone to give CF a go. You might not think it is for you for various reasons but you will never know unless you try. You will be surrounded by an incredible community that will support you, yell at you, sometimes scream at you, but always with encouragement. It is truly unique.

5) What is your favourite CrossFit exercise?
…..hum……..easy……….double unders!!!

6) What is your favourite activity outside of CrossFit?
Outside of CF I love hanging with my family and friends. I am truly fortunate to have the best of both. I will always say my #1 priority is being a Mom, then a wife. Love you Melissa, Duncan and Don 🙂

7) What is your proudest accomplishment at CrossFit?
My proudest accomplishment is going to competitions and putting myself out there. It is scary as hell and I could never do it without my CF family. It is truly a unique stage where everyone honestly wants you to do the best you can. I’ve never felt such support ever.

8) Have you made any changes to your diet?
Knew the diet question would arise………. Having been a ballerina I always vowed the word “DIET” would never enter my vocabulary ever again. However, in order to do what we do we must eat sensibly. I do not follow anything specific but do recognize if I eat well, which means lots of protein, vegetables and fruit, I will perform better. I need carbs………..I love carbs………..I try to avoid white crap; flour, sugar etc but I eat rice and oatmeal. I do try to eat sensibly mainly because I feel better if I do. CF or not we should eat well. On the other hand I am the queen of cheat days…………..gummies and cheezies………just saying!

9) Is there something that people would be surprised to know about you?
I’m a wicked Bridge player!!!

10) What/who inspires you the most?
I am constantly inspired by new CrossFitters……When they get their first pull-up, new PR, Rx for the first time, or just simply come to their first class. Someone who puts them selves out there. Someone who steps out side of their comfort zone and challenges themselves. I celebrate their success.
