1. When did you join CrossFit BC?
July 2018
2. Why did you choose CrossFit?
I didn’t really know what to expect until I tried it. I immediately fell in love with the concept. CrossFit allows for continuous learning and progression, there are no limits to how hard you can push yourself or scale it down for an easy day. Compared to a traditional gym, CrossFit is a sport and you train to improve. Most importantly, you immediately become a part of an amazing community of likeminded people that are there to help and support you every class.
3. What changes in your health, physique and overall performance have you seen since starting CrossFit?
I’ve noticed major improvements in overall strength and mobility. The combination of gymnastics movements and Olympic lifts has been excellent at uncovering weaknesses and undeveloped areas. CrossFit movements are truly all around and functional getting your body to work the way it was intended.
4. What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting CrossFit?
First, just start. Second, take the time to learn the movements and develop good technique, be patient with it. I am almost a year in and I still struggle with many movements, it’s getting better every day. You don’t need to be an expert day 1 and you are guaranteed to have a great workout even if you are not yet able to string ring muscle ups 🙂
5. What is your favourite CrossFit exercise?
Hmm… probably the Snatch. I think true olympic snatch is the most difficult exercise to learn and it takes years to master.
6. What is your favourite activity outside of CrossFit?
I love mountain sports, mountaineering, alpine climbing, ski touring.
7. What is your proudest accomplishment at CrossFit?
30 unbroken double unders!
8. Have you made any changes to your diet?
I’ve had to really focus on being appropriately fuelled for my workouts and recovery. I tend to go really hard most sessions and had to dial in my diet to support that.
9. Is there something that people would be surprised to know about you?
I have an aggressive form of Psoriatic Arthritis and am acutely aware that our bodies have 360 joints. According to my doctors I should be heading for a walking stick sometime soon 😉 … I am thinking i’ll stick with a barbell instead.
10. What/who inspires you the most?
My family and kids. I have 2 incredible girls and I hope I can make them proud and inspire them to do great things.
