1. When did you join CrossFit BC?
November 2008

2. Why did you choose CrossFit?
I’d always been into weight training a few years back but had recently just been doing pushups and dumbbell work in the house and not really getting anywhere with it or even enjoying it much. My wife “Chica Loca” had joined CrossFit BC a few months previously and I could see that she was really enjoying the CrossFit classes and making good progress on her fitness and conditioning. I decided to give it a go and was hooked from day one!

3. What changes in your health, physique and overall performance have you seen since starting CrossFit?
Over the last few years of CrossFit training I have made significant gains in strength and overall fitness. Its been encouraging to view my WOD times and strength PRs from when I started until now to see the progress I have made. I am certainly a much healthier person today thanks to CrossFit training.

4.What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting CrossFit?
Don’t be put off by what you hear about the difficulty and intensity of some of the WODs as everything is scaleable and your fellow CrossFitters are very encouraging and supportive. We are all there to get fit and have fun doing it and if you stick with it, I guarantee you will see amazing gains and then you won’t want to stop!

5. What is your favourite CrossFit exercise?
I love workouts that incorporate heavy weights but also mix in a bit of met con or gymnastic techniques. The Olympic lifting techs are great and it’s awesome to PR a lift you’ve been working on for a while.

6. What is your favourite activity outside of CrossFit?
There’s some great hikes around Vancouver which I enjoy doing, not so much the Grind! I also like playing golf and going snowboarding but I don’t think I’ll be competing in any competitions for them pretty soon!

7. What is your proudest accomplishment at CrossFit?
I think competing in the CrossFit BC Summer challenge this year. I only found out I was competing the day before as I was volunteered to partner someone whose teammate couldn’t compete that day. It was great fun, really enjoyable and challenging to do multiple WODs in one day. Will definitely do again next year!

8. Have you made any changes to your diet?
Not really. I do though eat more healthy now and we recently purchased a blender which we use to make awesome vegetable blends, so I’m now getting my daily dose of fruit and vegetables which I didn’t eat too much of before.

9. Is there something that people would be surprised to know about you?
I used to be into magic and knew a few good tricks which I used to do in a bar I worked in back in the UK. There was one trick I did that involved creating a big fire ball. Problem is it set off the fire alarm and a whole mall had to be evacuated. Stuck to card tricks after that.

10. What/who inspires you the most?
I workout in the 7am class and I’m inspired by the size of the classes at 6 and 7am. It really shows how dedicated everyone is at getting fit and healthy and shows how much they enjoy working out at CrossFit BC
