1. When did you join CrossFit BC?
November 2015

2. Why did you choose CrossFit?
Good question, it’s the fault of one of my co workers. He has been into CrossFit for many years and one day convinced me to join the Spartan Beast race in Kamloops last September. Long story short, I sucked so much especially climbing over those walls that I knew I had to do something, and CrossFit seemed to be exactly what I needed.

3. What changes in your health, physique and overall performance have you seen since starting CrossFit?
Lots! Despite me complaining a lot, running is much easier now for me. But mostly my back got stronger and I actually never have any real back pain anymore since I started. Oh and negotiating moguls seems so much easier, can’t wait to see how I will do next season.

4. What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting CrossFit?
Simple: do it! Almost everyone I try to convince to start CrossFit is afraid that it is too hard. It’s not! It is mostly your mind that is the way of achieving your goals and accomplishing what you thought is impossible for you. Here at CrossFit BC, you have an amazing community with great coaches that will help you every step on your way.

5. What is your favourite CrossFit exercise?
Rowing and thrusters. Ideally as a WoD … calorie rows and thrusters, yay!

6. What is your favourite activity outside of CrossFit?
When it comes to sport – skiing. I have been skiing since I was 4. It is my passion. I also like DIY home improvement, hiking, biking, whitewater kayaking.

7. What is your proudest accomplishment at CrossFit?

That I consistently can do the rope climbs. Mostly because I am terrified of heights and falling.

8. Have you made any changes to your diet?
Not really, I have always tried to eat somewhat healthy, but I also want to enjoy life and occasionally indulge. The only thing that comes to mind, I have never in my life had a protein shake before CrossFit, and now I have actually had one or two.

9. Is there something that people would be surprised to know about you?
Not sure, maybe that I was a voluntary fire fighter for over 10 years, or that despite me working in the hight tech / IT world my true passion is philosophy, neuroscience, sociology and psychology.

10. What/who inspires you the most?

For CrossFit, all of you. The coaches and every single athlete who persists and shows up on a regular basis. But especially those of the 6pm gang who regularly stay after classes to improve on something that did not feel quite right during the WOD. Whether it is a couple of toes-to-bar, muscle-ups, double-unders … you guys are amazing and an inspiration!
