1. When did you join CrossFit BC?
I joined the gym on January 2016!

2. Why did you choose CrossFit?
Well I didn’t really choose CrossFit, it chose me. Jk. I wanted to try out CrossFit because my husband wouldn’t stop raving about it. He said it helped him get to the best shape of his life before and since we were preparing for our upcoming wedding, I wanted to see if CrossFit could help me get in shape. Looking back now, even though I was scared of all of the heavy weights and grunting noises (that’s all I knew about CrossFit) I’m so glad I didn’t let that stop me from trying it. I love CrossFit because you are constantly pushed to get better and because of the amazing community. The coaches and the people in the classes are so supportive and welcoming. I love everyone!

3. What changes in your health, physique and overall performance have you seen since starting CrossFit?
I have seen a lot of changes. It’s changed my whole lifestyle. When I started CrossFit I also started changing what I ate. For example, I didn’t have a family sized bag of Doritos Zesty Cheese every night (now, only every other night #progress). I found myself wanting to eat better so that I could be better in what I was doing for the WODs. Physically, I feel like my body has just gotten leaner and stronger. In 6 months, I dropped 20 pounds and gained some muscle as well. It’s cool to see all the hard work pay off.
As good as the physical transformation is though, I think the best change I’ve observed in myself is in the mental game. I was always too scared to do things and I lacked confidence in my physical abilities, especially in things I’ve never done before. Everytime I was able to do something new or when I realized I didn’t actually die from the WOD, I felt so proud! When I see other people sweat their butts off and challenge themselves, it just made me want to give 110% as well.

4. What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting CrossFit?
It’s simple – just show up. Consistency is key. Be present and listen to those around you, especially the amazing coaches. It’s never an overnight transformation story, be patient with yourself and your body, listen to it when it needs rest. And HAVE FUN!!!!! That’s my favorite part 🙂

5. What is your favourite CrossFit exercise?
Pistol squats, box jumps, and power cleans! So much fun!!!

6. What is your favourite activity outside of CrossFit?
I love music. I’ve sang, danced, wrote music and played music my whole life! If anyone ever wants to hit up karaoke, holla at yo girl.

7. What is your proudest accomplishment at CrossFit?
Ooooh I have a few. One: getting double unders. I didn’t know how to skip before CrossFit so this was definitely an accomplishment. Two: when I’ve lifted anything over 100 lbs. Never done that before. Three: getting toes to bar. They’re still hard but I was so happy when I got them!

8. Have you made any changes to your diet?
Diet is key! Tom and I meal prep every Sunday and prepare our lunches and dinners for the whole week. We eat clean 80% of the time and we eat our favorite snacks as well. I will never stop eating chips.

9. Is there something that people would be surprised to know about you?
Hmm, I don’t know if it’s surprising but I’ve never been an ‘athlete’ before. I used to teach Dance Fit and I did a lot of hot yoga but I never played any sports ever. So this nomination is pretty awesome to me 🙂

10. What/who inspires you the most?
Cheesy but Tom Canning inspires me the most. He is my number one cheerleader and he’s proud of every little thing I do. When I do a WOD with him, he motivates me because I want to beat him/his time. He’s the best.
Also, whenever I see anyone Rx or really push themselves, I get really inspired. That look people have when they are digging deep and giving it all they’ve got – I love that!
