1. When did you join CrossFit BC?

I joined in July 2021 with my husband, Gus.

2. Why did you choose CrossFit?

We have a couple of friends that were trying to convince us to join for some time. They were (and still are) absolutely hooked! I have to say at first I didn’t think this would work for me. I could never get myself into working out before and I’ve subscribed to many more gyms that I’d like to admit, just to show up only once or twice a month…

Then in June 2022 we decided it was time to grow our family! And, as we usually do, we went on a road trip to finish a cycle and get ready for a new one. While camping on some beaches in Vancouver Island, we made up our minds about changes we wanted to make in our daily routine, starting with getting more active. So why not give CrossFit a chance, right? Well, little did I know it’d quickly turn into a passion! I love how it keeps me motivated and always wanting to improve.

3. What changes in your health, physique and overall performance have you seen since starting CrossFit?

The best thing about CrossFit is that it helped me get better in many aspects of my life I wasn’t satisfied with but hadn’t done much to change in a while. Now I eat better, I have more energy and feel stronger, and I finally set up a meditation routine. I feel like it was the little push I needed to set up an overall healthier life.

4. What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting CrossFit?

Be consistent! It’s the only way to success. I started only using the baby bar for everything, with tiny plaques, and it was really hard! Everything would make me so tired so fast and the technique necessary for the weight lifting exercises felt overwhelming. But I kept going and pushed myself to do at least just a bit better every time. Adding a little more weight, rowing/running/biking a bit faster, jumping a little higher, using less bands on the pull ups… and suddenly I realized I was actually getting better each day.

5. What is your favourite CrossFit exercise?

I really enjoy all the weight lifting exercises, but my favorite will always be back squats!

6. What is your favourite activity outside of CrossFit?

I usually spend my rainy days playing video games with Gus (we’re working our way into finishing Final Fantasy XIV now!), and I love to spend time outside whenever it’s sunny, either hiking or on some beach with friends.

7. What is your proudest accomplishment at CrossFit?

I don’t have such chicken arms anymore! hahaha

I’d say staying active – and even getting a new deadlift PR (yay!) – while pregnant is a pretty big accomplishment for me! I’m extremely grateful for all the support I get everyday from coaches and friends!

8. Have you made any changes to your diet?

Yep! I quickly understood I needed to review some of my eating habits. I really got into baking in the beginning of the pandemic, but as much as I still love carbs in all shapes and forms, I knew a more balanced diet would be better for me. So now I take protein shakes after classes, eat much more protein, switch for more nutritious carbs and less empty calories. Of course I still have my days of chaos because they’re needed to keep everything in order 😉

9. Is there something that people would be surprised to know about you?

I guess by now most people know I’m 8 months pregnant =D Baby Oliver is almost here!

Besides that super exciting news about my life, I’d say the most surprising thing is that I used to be a lawyer in Rio (Brazil), but after years of feeling miserable I decided to ditch everything and move to Canada. Now I’m happier than ever working with cartoons for the last 4 years and in love with British Columbia!

10. What/who inspires you the most?

The coaches and classmates inspire me to always try harder, push myself to get better! They’re an awesome team that I feel so proud to be part of. I’m always amazed watching everyone giving their best to hit a new goal in their CrossFit journey. One day I’ll be doing muscle ups and squatting more than 200lb!
