1. When did you start coaching at CrossFit BC?
I started coaching at CFBC in November of 2015, shortly after moving to Vancouver. I began coaching CrossFit in Saskatchewan in July of 2013.

2. Why did you choose CrossFit?
I originally started CrossFit as a way to get in better shape for dance. I was trying to land a pretty sweet gig in Las Vegas that required me to be to bulk up a bit.

3. What changes in your health, physique and overall performance have you seen since starting CrossFit?
Having had 2 knee surgeries during my dance career, I wish someone had told me that in order for my knees to stop hurting me, all I had to do was get strong. It has saved my knees, but has obviously made me stronger in general. CrossFit has helped my dance career as well, from partnering to just more of a physical presence while dancing, I have received more praise in my dance career since starting CrossFit.

4. What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting CrossFit?
It may sound cliche, but “Listen to your coaches” is the best advice I can give anyone. If we look at the best CrossFitters in the world they mostly have one thing in common, they all move well. Being a dance teacher and a CrossFit coach I always am correcting physical movement, and it is obvious who applies their corrections. Not only is proper form and technique more efficient during WODs but it is safer all around. If you want to get the most out of every WOD, get the technique down, and everything else will fall into place.

5. What is your favourite CrossFit exercise?
Snatch and Overhead Squat

6. What is your favourite activity outside of CrossFit?
Dance! If I’m not at the gym, I most likely will be at dance!

7. What is your proudest accomplishment at CrossFit?
I competed at the 2015 CrossFit Games West regional in Tacoma, WA. It was the culmination of years of hard work, and I loved competing at that level. My second proudest accomplishment will be when I make it back for round 2 😉

8. Have you made any changes to your diet?
I have dabbled in a few different diets. I was strict Paleo before CrossFit, but after starting CrossFit I was losing weight instead of gaining it so I needed to make a change to get the scale moving in the right direction. Eating everything and anything helped me gain mass and then when I went back to cutting off someone of the fat I did it through a macro balanced approach. I weighed and measured my food making sure to hit a certain number of grams of Protein, Fat and Carbs. This approach helped me lose fat fast, but it isn’t something I cared to do forever as it is time consuming. So now I try and eat a “clean” diet, and when I feel I want to lose some fat, I go back to measuring my food, and hitting my macros.

9. Is there something that people would be surprised to know about you?

My dream is to travel to every country on earth, I’ve hit 28 so far, so I guess it’s time to pick it up a bit!

10. What/who inspires you the most?
My husband! Seeing Tylor make so much progress in CrossFit continually pushes me to want to be better. Im lucky to have found someone who shares my passion and holds me accountable!
