The first Wod of the day for me was 3 Rounds of 3 Muscle-Ups and 8 Power Cleans (135) with an 8 minute time cap. I spent the 8 minutes trying to get a Muscle-Up. The crowd was behind me all the way, but I couldn't pull one off. I think it was my first DNF. Ever!!
Doc's wod was 3 Rounds of 3 Chest-To-Bar Pullups and 8 Power Cleans (115) with an 8 minute time cap. He struggled on the Pullups but fought through like he always does to a 17th place finish. Awesome!!
The second Wod was 10 Handstand Pushups, 20 Wallballs, 30 Toes-To-Bar, 40 Power Cleans (135/115), 50 Burpees, 60 Sumo Deadlift High-Pulls (75/65) with a 20 minute time cap.
To prepare for the Games, Doc and I did this wod earlier in the week in a time of 16:10, so we were both pretty excited about hitting it again.
Today, I spent the entire 20 minutes doing Handstand Pushup. I don't know how many times I tried, but I couldn't get one damn pushup. Maybe it was all the Muscle-Ups in the morning.
I ended up in 18th place overall
Doc had the same problem with the Muscle-Ups but managed to get through them and hammered all the way to the Burpees. He finished in 15th place for the Wod and 14th overall. Again, Amazing.
After competing in the Games, the phrase "Rx'd" has a whole new meaning for both of us. Each technique had to be executed to standard or they were not counted. I tried to pay off my judges, but they had too much integrity(-: I'm looking forward to coming home and sharing my new-found respect for "Rx'd" with our athletes at CrossFit BC!!!
It's 4am in the morning and my body feels like I just got the crap kicked out of me. So many of the athletes had injuries, but persevered. This experience has been surreal. To be competing side-by-side with the top CrossFit athletes in the world was an experience of a lifetime. The camaraderie and support among the athletes was incredible. In the warmup area, each one of us helped the other if struggling with a technique. I was there hours before my 3rd Wod working on my Muscle-Ups and a dozen different athletes came by to help me out. Even guys I was competing against! This is the community of CrossFit and the reason Jimmy Z and I are so passionate about building that at CrossFit BC. CrossFitters are awesome people. Please say "Hi" to the athlete beside you next time you train, they'll probably become a friend. If you don't, I'm gonna make you do Burpees.
Thanks for sharing this experience with me.
